Some of the local delights are delicious crabs and summer end of pier shows at Cromer, the lovely market towns of Holt and North Walsham, and medieval Norwich city, with its castle, cathedral, cinemas, theatres, restaurants and fine shopping, are all within an easy drive. Wroxham, the capital of the Broads, where boat hire and trips are available, is 8 miles away.

North Norfolk has around 45 miles of coastline, with long sandy beaches, flint pebble banks and salt marshes, stretching from Horsey to Holkham beach. The rich architectural heritage of 81 conservation areas, over 2,200 listed buildings and 100 Scheduled Ancient Monuments, is set in countryside ideal for cycling, walking, bird watching or just relaxing. There is also a vibrant arts scene in North Norfolk, with numerous concerts and live music events, thriving local theatres, a range of excellent commercial art galleries, the chance to visit artists' studios as well as a host of children's and family events. North Norfolk contains a diverse array of museums, offering something for everyone, whether you're interested in local history, the Broads, maritime heritage, lifeboats, motorbikes, steam railways, vintage tractors, agricultural machinery, military vehicles, windmills, air defence, gas works, Worstead spinning and weaving or seashells, here is a selection we thought you might like.

The Mundesley Museum The museum sits in a coastguard lookout which was built in 1928. Inside the building they feature Maritime history and Mundesley Maritime/Coastal History. The museum features photographs, prints and information illustrating local fishing and trade from the 19th century, equipment from 1930/40s. The Museum is believed to be one of the smallest in England. 

Happisburgh Church Tower  Climb the 133 steps and enjoy spectactular views of the coast and countryside. On a clear day you can see 30 churches, 2 lighthouses, 7 water towers, 10 mills, 2 windfarm and 1 cathedral spire.

Happisburgh Lighthouse  More wonderfull views and a guided tour of the light. It is the only independentaly run working lighthouse in the UK.

The Museum of the Broads, Stalham  Discover the fascinating history of the Broads from its beginnings with the medieval peat diggings right up to modern times with the tourist industry. See the collection of Broads' boats and find out how people's working lives shaped the landscape. Enjoy videos, models and a playboat in an historic waterside setting.

Walsingham Abbey Grounds & Shirehall Museum, Wells-next-the-Sea  Set in the picturesque village of Little Walsingham, the early 16th century building that now houses the Walsingham Shirehall Museum was used as a hostel for important visitors as it was only 80 feet away from the Priory Church. In the 1770s it was converted into the shirehall for the quarter sessions, which were held here until 1861; the petty sessions continued until 1971.

Horsey Windpump, Horsey  Originally built 200 years ago this is a truly stunning structure.  It is set in a beautiful position and has fabulous views of the coast and landscapes.  Nature enthusiasts will delight in seeing the rare local birdlife and insects. Refreshments are also available.

Air Defence Radar Museum, Neatishead  Winner of 'The Best Small Visitor Attraction' award in 2007 you know you are guaranteed a good time. Newly refurbished in April 2011, discover the secret world of air defence during the Cold War by taking part in the exhibits.  See the operations room and sit at a terminal and imagine working amongst 70 people or even envision being in charge of the fighter planes!

RNLI Henry Blogg Museum, Cromer  Learn about the most famous Coxswain Henry Blogg and all the fantastic works of the lifeboat men.  Find out about the bravery shown in some of the biggest rescues and see HF Bailey, the boat used by Blogg during World War II.  Have a go at trying on the lifeboat uniform or try your hand at Morse Code.

Cromer Museum, Cromer  Get a taste of life as fisherman in this late 19th century fisherman's cottage.  Wander the 'Old Cromer Gallery and take in the historic photographs.  Find out about Cromer's history and the heroics of Henry Blogg and lifeboat men.  Keep a look out on events as there is always something different going on.

Blickling Hall, Blickling, Norfolk  One glance at this superb estate will take your breath away  Standing for 4 centuries and boasting truly beautiful gardens this is a place to see.  Learn about the hall itself and life as a servant and view amazing portraits of generations of residents to this hall. Often the location for large musical events and theatrical productions in its grounds, it is also the supposed childhood home of Anne Boleyn who reportedly haunts this magnificent house. With an impressive long gallery, a huge collection of rare books and some beautiful tapestries, Blickling Hall is not to be missed.

Pensthorpe Nature Reserve & Gardens  Fakenham Award winning attraction for those who love nature, wildlife and the outdoors with plenty for all the family; nature trails, birdwatching and the Wensum Discovery Tour. For children there is bird feeding, pond dipping, a nature quiz and the Bug Walk. Enjoy stunning Gardens designed by Chelsea Flower Show gold medallists and get closer to nature in the bird hides. Then browse the large gift shop and have a delicious home-cooked meal in the Courtyard Cafe.
